This is the other beast that I've been working on as well as the GTX, its a 62 Plymouth Valiant. I think its a dealer demo type model as it's made of fiberglass and was only the body, no int tub, chassis or running gear. I have two of them that I picked up at swap meets. Both are 4 doors, one I built up to match my 1:1 Valiant, the other I've converted to a 2 door coupe. These fiberglass bodies are terrible to work with and are not of very good quality. All the bumpers and tail lights are cast on the body as one piece, so they are not quite perfect, but I've scraped and sanded them to a reasonable standard.
The chassis I've used is from the Revell '71 Hemi Cuda so this beast is running a Hemi
. I've had to narrow the front chassis rails to fit into the body with the Pegasus wheels, as well extend the rear of the chassis to match the body. The interior tub and dash are both narrowed and I scratch built a center console, corrected arm rests and turned up a more accurate steering column with indicator stalk.
The entire engine bay is scratch built including the firewall, inner fenders and radiator support panel. The bonnet (hood) is mounted with scratch built working hinges. The hemi has been detailed with spark leads, fuel lines and throttle linkages as well as scratch built pulleys, belts, thermostat housing, distributor, coil etc etc.
As the resin body was of poor quality, I've not been able to clean up the grille properly without damage, so a friend suggested I make a mesh grille, which turned out great and gives it a more modern look. To that I added a scratch built Plymouth emblem, as per the real car. Headlights and bezels are hand made as are the taillight lenses........phew lots of work and it's still not finished but I thought you guys might like a look at it.
These are only mock up pics, any comments welcome.
Cheers Tim
